I found your blog while doing a search for what vegan/raw foodists who are also runners eat during long races. I am preparing to run my first 1/2 marathon and should be running it under two hours but I want to make sure to be prepared just in case I need something along the way. Do you have any suggestions? I am not really interested in eating GU or any of the other similar products. I would love any suggestions that you may have. Thanks!

    • Congradulations! I wish you luck! As a matter of fact, I am also going to run my first 1/2 marathon this coming March! I don’t really have a goal time, I just want to finish it. What I am doing eating-wise before running is focusing on alot of fruit and superfood smoothies and liquids. Fruits smoothies are awesome to have before a run because they you give energy quickly and don’t bogg you down while you run. I highly recommend superfoods like maca. Maca gives you more energy and increases your endurance level. I always drink a cup of coconut water before and after a run to help hydrate me and replenish my electrolytes. Throughout the day, I try to eat one high protein meal and two high carb meals.
My biggest suggestion is to try what’s good for you. A high carb diet works for me but it may or may not work for you. Just try what you think you feels right. Good luck on your race!
