Suggested Shopping List for Beginner Vegans/Raw Foodists- Part 2

Here is my second list for you all see. It mainly involves oils and sweeteners. Of course each one maintains the expected standard of healthy, fresh, and organic foods. Oils MUST be cold pressed or you will be spending a lot of money on oils without any real health benefits or nutrition.

Oils

  1. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  2. Safflower Oil
  3. Grapeseed oil
  4. Sesame Oil
  5. Coconut Oil

Sweeteners

  1. Dates (fresh or dried)
  2. Maple Syrup (a bit processed but still holds most of its nutritional value)
  3. Agave

 There are a lot of different oils and sweeteners out there that enhance the flavors of your dish, but I am only suggesting very basic and necessary items that you need.

Just recently, I was asked what I would recommend for them to buy as a beginning vegan. I was caught off guard and couldn’t seem to find an answer. So I am going to redeem myself and answer that question for all my readers to see. However, the list of necessary items is quite long, so I am breaking this list up into 5 posts.

Here is a list of must have spices and herbs (all organic and non-GMO of course!) for beginning vegans and raw foodists.

Delicious Tri-Root Salad Recipe

Got a bunch of carrots, beets, and radishes lying around and have no idea what to do with them? Well, here is a delicious recipe that turns those roots into a gorgeous salad that satisfies your sweet tooth!

Tri-Root Salad (serves 4)

Ingredients

3 medium sweet carrots Julienne cut

2 medium beets Julienne cut

1 medium or 2 small radishes (use watermelon radishes for a milder spicy flavor) Julienne cut

2 lemons

a handful of chopped parsley

2 Tbs maple syrup

Procedure:

Juice the two lemons into a bowl and add the parsley and maple syrup. Then add the beets, carrots, and radish into the bowl. Toss until the ingredients are mixed well. 

Serve and Enjoy!

Buchi Kombucha: Fire- One of the Best Tasting Kombuchas Ever!

I have never experienced kombucha like Buchi Kombucha. Sunchoke (Jerusalem Artichoke)- What Are They and How Do They Taste

The Jerusalem Artichoke, or better known as the sunchoke, is an interesting-looking root vegetable full of inulin, a carbohydrate that helps promote a healthy intestine due to its probiotic properties. It is a rich source of iron, phosphorous, and Vitamin C.

Sunchokes may look weird and distasteful, but it has the most pleasing taste and texture. When raw, sunchokes have this crisp crunch to it. The refreshing taste followed by a subtle sweetness is similar to the flavors of a water chestnut. When cooked, the sunchoke resembles a cooked potato, both in taste and texture.

I highly recommend you to buy these neat little veggies. My personal preference to their preparation is just washed, peeled, and cut into nice thick pieces. They are like sweet potato chips! Delicious!

Raw/Vegan Recipe for Mint Hot Chocolate Drink

Here is a delicious minty hot chocolate drink to help you keep warm during these cold winter months.

 

Vegan Recipe

For 1 cup of hot chocolate

1c of mint tea- recommended brand is Mountain Rose Herbs (1 spoonful of tea steeped in 1c hot water- tea leaves must then be strained)

1 spoonful of raw cocao

1 to 2 spoonful(s) of agave or maple syrup (caution: maple syrup creates a coffee-like taste)

a drop or two of vanilla extract

Put vanilla, agave, and cocao in cup, then add hot water. Stir thoroughly. Sit down to a nice book and drink up!

 

 

Raw Recipe

For 1c of hot coco

1c of room temperature water

1 spoonful of mint tea

1 spoonful of raw cocao

1 to 2 spoonful(s) of agave or maple syrup (caution: maple syrup creates a coffee-like taste)

a drop or two of vanilla extract

Put tea leaves in water and let it sit for 10-20 minutes. Strain water and put it in a high-speed blender. Add the rest of the ingredients. Blend coco drink for 5- 10  minutes at high-speed or until desired warmth. Enjoy!

Reed’s Ginger Chews VS Ginger People’s Ginger Chews (A Food Review)

Ginger chews are a nice snack that reminds me of a sweet and spicy taffy. Here are two different ginger chews made from the companies Reed’s and The Ginger People. Each Chew is rated on a 1 to 5 scale. 1 being the worst and 5 being the best.
